Snakes are awakening, cherry
blossoms are flourishing – let’s go
on a pilgrimage.

The Spanish camino is okay.
But here comes the new pilgrimage,
the oldest one and longest one of the world,
the „camino squared“: the hachijuhakkasho!

It circles the Japanese island Shikoku. According to
the temples, shrines and monks it’s called the „holy island“
Pilgrims had been going here for one thousend two hundred
years, along a route of 1.300 kilometres, marked by 88 temples.

Japanese Buddhists walk the route. Only by exception a foreigner
participates. Like in spring 2007. A german pilgrim was on the road,
on his own, joined by his camera. He was searching for “henro boke”,
a special state of mind of a pilgrim. That’s the aim of the documentary.
